Prior to entering this field I really struggled to know what to say to someone in my life who was grieving an illness or a death. This was true in both my personal life and later my professional life as a nurse. There were times when I was so afraid of saying the wrong thing that I just didn't say anything at all. It wasn't that I didn't want to say something - I was just so worried about saying the wrong thing and making things worse as a result.
Now as a grief therapist, I recall this every time a client who is grieving shares with me that people in their life haven't shown up for them in the way that they would hope - either not acknowledged their grief, or maybe even avoiding them all together.
I've designed this course to include all of the information that I wish someone had shared with me much earlier in my life. In it, I've included information and practical strategies that can be used immediately to support someone who is grieving, even when you don't know what to say.
